Loco’s to close, many students left without jobs
Loco’s Deli & Pub in downtown Milledgeville is expected to close Sunday Oct. 2, but its management and employees have repeatedly declined to comment. About 25 of Loco’s employees are GC&SU students.
Former Loco’s employee and senior Jason Carr said the closing of Loco’s did not shock him.
“I didn’t know they were closing, but it’s not surprising,” Carr said. “When I worked there, they had poor management. Most nights I’d wonder why the managers were even there. They didn’t know what to do or how to do it. They seemed to look down on the workers, too.”
Loco’s will end their two-year stay in Milledgeville with a performance by Lionz, a band from Athens, on Saturday night. The band also declined to comment.
There is currently no information on whether or not any other businesses have made bids on the vacant downtown location.
Loco’s in Milledgeville opened in July 2003, and, though its Milledgeville franchise may be struggling, the corporation as a whole does not appear to be. According to an article in Chain Leader magazine earlier this year, Loco’s planned to add 100 restaurants by 2012 and brought in $35 million in sales in 2004.
According to its corporate Web site, the chain is looking to expand its 24 restaurant chain throughout the southeast by reaching out to potential owners in Charlotte, N.C., Hilton Head, S.C. and Tallahassee, Fla.
