SGA Happenings: Shuttle services, hurricane relief, bookstore

The issue of shuttle service has been one at the forefront of SGA and through Ken Vance and Darryl Richardson, shuttle supervisor, the problems with the shuttles have been calmed. He announced that two new shuttles have been ordered and will be arriving operational on campus within the next week or two. The increased student population on campus, primarily in Bobcat Village, and the malfunctions of the buses have shown an increased need for more shuttles, and Vance has responded to the needs of the students. The buses will both seat 25 – 27 students approximately.

With the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina in Louisiana and Mississippi as well as the massive needs of those victims and evacuees because of the storm, SGA is partnering with the Change for Change Project held by the Paul Coverdell Leadership Living Learning Community at Parkhurst Hall. For approximately one month the community is holding different fundraisers and setting up tables the week of the 12 through the 16 to raise money and gather necessities for the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

SGA will have tables set up once a month by the fountain to inform students more about SGA and what it represents. Look out for the SGA tables and learn more about an organization that is run by the student body and runs for the student body.

There is a bookstore task force newly formed under Michael Haun, marketing manager in Auxiliary Services, that includes students and concerns the policies and operations of the book store when it comes to the students. Book prices are one of the issues that you would be able to work with as a member of the task force. If interested, contact Vice-President Zaira Solano at zaira_solano@bobcat.gcsu.edu for more information.

SGA meetings are on Wednesdays at 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Dogwood Conference Room in the Student Activities Center, and they are open to the community. If you have any ideas, concerns or issues, please feel free to come to one of the meetings.
