GC&SU model struts her stuff on national television show
The story of Tiffany Hall, a junior at GC&SU and plus-size model, is one worthy of a Hollywood screenplay.
Hall, a native of Athens, was watching television with her roommates when an ad appeared for a national plus-size modeling competition called “Mo’Nique’s Fat Chance,” which would appear as a television special on the Oxygen network and be hosted by Mo’Nique.
“It was my roommates’ idea,” Hall said. “Mo’Nique said there would be a casting call in Atlanta, and my roommates said they would throw me out of the apartment if I didn’t audition.”
Hall, a size 24, was convinced to enter the Atlanta audition, which was held at the Westin.
“We thought she would make it,” said Alison Williams, one of Hall’s roommates. “She is a fabulous person, beautiful on the outside, as well as on the inside.”
Hall said she doubted her chances of winning in Atlanta when she learned that over 1500 girls were competing.
“There were so many girls, and all of them looked really interesting, with many looks and styles,” Hall said. “They were all gorgeous women.”
Hall convinced her twin sister, Asia, to audition as well. Both sisters made it to the final round in Atlanta, which consisted of 30 girls.
Hall later received word that she was chosen as the winner out of Atlanta’s finalists, placing her in the top 10. This meant that she would be flown to Los Angeles, where the competition’s overall winner would be determined on national television.
“When I got the call from Mo’Nique to tell me I’d won, I was definitely screaming a lot and laughing,” Hall said.
Hall said she has been asked what separated her from her twin sister in the competition.
“I think they liked my interview, that I seemed so happy for and supportive of my sister,” Hall said. “And they liked the turn I did. They said it was very ‘Marilyn Monroe.’”
Asia Hall said she was not surprised to see her sister win.
“Tiffany has an amazing attitude. She is positive, charming and accepting of people,” Asia Hall said. “These factors, added to her stunning looks, made my sister stand out.”
In LA, Hall was hospitalized when she was bitten on the ankle by a poisonous insect. She had to take medication, which added to her worries of tripping on the runway in front of cameras.
“Not only was I on medication, but we had to walk in heels, and one of the runway’s boards was loose,” Hall said. I was just trying to focus on the ground, but I also had to keep my head elevated. It was funny.”
During the final competition, which aired in August, Hall did not advance past the top 10, but she said the contest was a rewarding experience regardless.
“It was very interesting, especially one night when all the girls had dinner together with Mo’Nique,” Hall said. “All the girls were talking about their life experiences. We learned that even though we were so different and from various backgrounds, we had the same emotions.”
Williams said even though Hall lost the final competition, all of her friends were proud of her.
“It was really surreal to see my friend and roommate on national television,” Williams said. “We were really happy for her. She put her mind to it and accomplished her goal.”
Asia Hall said she is happy about all the attention her sister is receiving.
“I have always thought my sister is the most beautiful woman alive,” Asia Hall said. “Now I know I am not the only one.”
Hall said she would consider more modeling in the future, but now she has to concentrate on graduating from GC&SU.
“School has always been my primary focus, but (modeling) certainly was a fun experience,” Hall said. “I’ve always been a camera hog.”
