SGA Happenings… A look at what’s going on with your Student Government

On August 31, 2005 the Student Government Association held their first senate session in the Student Activities Center. Resolution No. 1, presented by President Pro Tempore Green, was passed to establish the official symbol for the Student Government Association.

In all of the Student Government history, there had never been an official symbol to signify the meaning of Student Government Association.

“The ‘handshake’ emblem signifies putting a peaceful close to an issue and sealing off for a new beginning,” Vice President Solano said.

The executive board designed the symbol over the summer and has already printed it on Senator Portfolios.

“This is something that will promote and identify the Student Government Association. It gives student an identifying object to associate with their voice on campus,” noted Treasurer Webster.

Lapel pins are now being awarded to senators or officers for at least one year of service. The tradition began this semester and embodies the new, official symbol of the Student Government Association.

President Johnson said, “The new ‘year of service’ pins help recognize the important work of our SGA senators, while showing the commitment and continuing efforts that they contribute to the university community.”

The Student Services committee is meeting with Ken Vance on September 1 to discuss how to counteract the current shuttle service, which is unable to accommodate the increasing number of students at GC&SU.

We have two Senator positions open to the student body. If you are interested, please attend our executive meeting on Monday, September 5 in the SGA Executive Office at the Student Activities Center.

If you are interested in being appointed to student positions on campus, please contact President Johnson at sara_johnson@bobcat.gcsu.edu.

All Senate sessions are on Wednesdays from 12:30-2:00pm in the Dogwood Conference Room in the Student Activities Center and are open to the community. If you have issues, ideas or concerns please come to one of the sessions.

SGA would like to congratulate the recently-elected senators for the 2005-06 school year:
