Print cards become obsolete as Bobcat Cards expand in usage

The list of uses for the Bobcat card is growing yet again. In addition to serving as student identification, meal plan card and access key to residence halls, it can now be used at Library and Information Technology Center for making copies and printing.

The previously used Information Technology Center “print card” system is in the process of being replaced by a system that is more convenient to students at GC&SU.

“I think it’s good that we can use it in the library. We can use the card in so many other places on campus, and I don’t have to worry about carrying cash around anymore,” said Kimberley Murdoch, a sophomore.

Because the ITC cards will soon be outdated, students are advised to transfer any large balances onto their Bobcat Card. There is a three-week period at which time a student can take the ITC cards to the Bobcat Card office located in Maxwell Student Union from Monday August 29 until Friday September 16.

“We at the library think that accepting the Bobcat Card is a very convenient shift for our students. However, it might not be the easiest transition,” said Mary Jones, Coordinator of Access Services in Library and Information Technology Center.

Patrons of the library who do not have a Bobcat Card can make copies or print by obtaining a visitor’s card from a machine in the atrium of the first floor of the Library.

The GC&SU’s visitor’s card is not just for making copies at the library, but is also good at any of the other locations on campus where the Bobcat Card is accepted.

Adding money to a depleted Bobcat Card is easy. A center in the first floor atrium of the library has the sole purpose of managing a Bobcat account. Accounts are also accessible through the InfoPage.

The evolution of the Bobcat Card is not expected to stop here. It is anticipated to be a valid form of payment for doing laundry in the residence halls by 2006. More vending machines on campus that take the Bobcat Card are also forecasted.

Furthermore, the university is working on the acceptance of the card in many off-campus venues such as Blackbird Caf? and other popular restaurants downtown.
