Newly renovated library offers numerous services

Special to The Colonnade

The faculty and staff of the Ina Dillard Russell Library welcome you to Georgia College & State University. We are pleased that you have chosen to become part of our learning community and know that your time here will be fulfilling. It is very important to us that you feel comfortable in approaching us with your information needs. Whether you’re writing a term paper, doing research or simply looking for something interesting to read, we encourage you to seek us out.

We offer many services for students throughout the library including an information desk, a circulation and reserves desk and GIL Express.

Librarians at the Information Desk assist in finding information and teaching the use of the catalog, databases, the web and other printed and electronic information sources. We can also help you locate materials in other library collections. Students are encouraged to work with librarians throughout the research process.

The Circulation & Reserves Desk staff checks out library materials. A current student ID (Bobcat Card) is required for checking out materials from the library’s circulating and reserves collections.

GIL Express is a service that allows you to request a book from any of the 34 other public universities in Georgia. If you can’t find a book in our catalog, try searching the Universal Catalog and requesting the book through this service. It’ll only take a few business days for the book to arrive.

Also special for students, DVDs are now available as part of the Library’s Multimedia Collection.

We also offer many services designed to help not only students but faculty as well. These include interlibrary loan, reserve materials and library instruction.

Interlibrary Loan staff obtains materials not available in the GC&SU Library for the use of faculty, staff, and currently enrolled students. Allow a minimum of 10 working days for processing and receipt. Interlibrary Loan request forms are available at ttp://library.gcsu.edu/~ill/ or call (478) 445-0975.

Reserve materials are set aside by instructors and listed in the Library Catalog. Most materials are designated for in-library use only, but some instructors allow materials to be taken from the library for a limited time period.

Library Instruction can be designed to fit class or individual needs and may include exploration of a variety of database and print sources. Anyone can request and schedule library instruction at http://library.gcsu.edu/~instruct/ or call (478) 445-0979.

Additional library services are listed at

http://library.gcsu.edu/~reference/services.html or call (478) 445-4047.
