Letter from Ken Vance, Director of Public Safety
Dear incoming freshmen,
Welcome to the land of Bobcats, humidity, and public ivy academics, and for those of you returning, the GC&SU Dept. of Public Safety says welcome back.
I’d like to reiterate a couple of things that I’ve said in summer orientations for years: Be Responsible, take ownership of GC&SU and take care of it. When you go to do something that you question is right or wrong, ask yourself the question,”What would Mama say?” If Mama would agree that what you’re about to do is ok, then it probably is. If she wouldn’t, then it probably isn’t.
Please remember that there are 5 ways to go to jail at GC&SU:
1- Get caught driving under the influence (DUI)
2- Get caught with illicit/illegal drugs
3- Any crime involving physical violence
4- Stealing
5- Computer hacking or harassment
As for parking, all resident students are required to park in the appropriate GC&SU parking lots. These lots are designated by either “A”, “B”, or “C”. Resident students get a “C” permit, so you’ll use “C” lots. All of this will be spelled out in literature you’ll get when you register your vehicle.Commuters will be eligible for either a “C” permit or a “B” permit. I’m asking that each of you take a few minutes and review the parking rules.
And I’d also like to recommend using the shuttle service. It’s convenient, on time and staffed with good and courteous drivers.
Finally, remember the chant: “No means No! Yes means Yes! Everything else means No.” Y’all know what I’m talking about.
Anyway, welcome back, and I hope each of you have a safe and productive year.
You can E-mail me at ken.vance@gcsu.edu.
Sincerely,
Ken Vance
