Services to be limited during summer
Students at Georgia College & State University will have limited access to many amenities around campus this summer.
The Wellness Depot will be among the facilities with limited hours. During the summer, the depot will not be open on weekends. During the week, hours are Monday through Thursday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Wellness Depot Director Joe Bellflower said the reason for the shortened hours was lack of student participation.
“Last year, we did not have that much participation on the weekends,” Bellflower said. “The participation just did not warrant staying open.”
Bellflower did say that if involvement picks up, the hours could be adjusted.
Food services around campus will also have limited hours. These include The Ice Box, Chick-fil-A, Sodexho and Einstein Bros. General Manager of Dining Services Neal Seigler said times for Maymester are subject to change while hours for June and July have yet to be determined.
Hours for The Ice Box during Maymester are Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Chick-fil-A hours during Maymester are Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Both will be closed on Saturdays and Sundays. Sodexho will be closed for the entirety of Maymester. Einstein Bros. will be open on a limited basis.
“Einstein’s will be open on a trial run to see what kind of attendance we have,”Seigler said. “If we only have 10 people show up in a day, it won’t be worth it to stay open.”
Seigler also said that it has yet to be determined if Books and Brew will remain open for the summer.
Campus shuttles are another service with limited hours for the summer.
From May 9-31, the shuttle will run Monday through Thursday 7:15 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday 7:15 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
From June 1 to August 3, the shuttle will run Monday through Thursday 7:15 a.m. to 11 p.m., Friday 7:15 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
These hours are for students traveling both on campus and to Bobcat Village. Shuttle Supervisor Darryl Richardson said that the hours are determined by class schedules and student need.
“I check with the Registrar’s Office every year to see when the last class is going to be. We run the busses a half an hour past the latest scheduled class,” Richardson said.
For the entire summer, two shuttles will make rounds. Only one of these shuttles will be for GC&SU students. The other shuttle will be used for Kids’ University as well as different activities around campus. One of the new larger buses will be used for students.
The two buses used this summer will be one more than Richardson used last year.
“The best barometers are the students,” Richardson said. “I’ve been talking to them on the buses and it seems like more students are going to summer classes this year.”
The Information & Instructional Technology Center will also be open for summer. Hours are Monday through Thursday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Other destinations around campus open for business this summer include the Centennial Center, the library and both on-campus book stores.
The Centennial Center’s hours are Monday through Thursday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Hours for the Centennial Center swimming pool will be posted weekly on the pool gate.
The library’s hours are Monday through Thursday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The bookstores’ hours are Monday through Thursday 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and closed Saturday and Sunday.
