The GC&SU Public Safety Report

* On April 8 at 10 a.m., an employee reported that on April 7 between 3:45 p.m. and 5 p.m. someone stole four credit cards from her office in Arts & Sciences. One of the credit card companies had contacted her about some suspicious activity on her card. Detective Butler called her credit card companies and the credit cards were all cancelled.

* On April 12 at 12:30 p.m., a male student reported that another male student had verbally and physically attacked him. The reporting male advised that the other student came from behind him making threats and using vulgarity. The reporting student said he attempted to walk away, but the other student positioned himself in front of him forcefully making bodily contact and getting in his face. An altercation ensued with no punches being thrown. Approximately 15 minutes prior to this incident, the aggressor had left a vulgar message on the reporting student’s phone threatening bodily harm.

* On April 14 at 3:39 a.m., Officer Tuft was dispatched to Sanford Hall in reference to a sick student. Contact was made with the female student, who advised she had closed her head in a car door approximately two weeks ago and had been having headaches ever since. She advised that she had been to Student Health Services and had a follow up for April 15. She also advised that she had blacked out earlier but did not know for how long. The student’s roommate took her to Oconee Regional Medical Center.

* On April 14 at 11:03 p.m., Officer D. Williams was dispatched to a residence across from GC&SU Public Safety in reference to a male carrying a street sign and placing it behind some bushes. Contact was made with a male student, who stated he tripped over the sign and placed it beside his residence so no one else would trip over it. The student was unable to give a reason why he placed the sign behind the bushes instead of carrying the sign across the street to the Police Department other than he did not want to trip over the sign again. The student was placed under arrest and transported to the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office and charged with Theft by Taking. The sign was taken to the station and placed into evidence.

* On April 15 at approximately 12:42 a.m., Officer D. Williams was dispatched to Bobcat Village in reference to a student passed out in the hallway. Contact was made with a female student, who was vomiting and unresponsive. EMS arrived and transported the student to Oconee Regional Medical Center Emergency Room for treatment. The student was issued a Non-Traffic Citation for Underage Possession/Consumption of Alcohol and released to her parents. A Notice of Disciplinary Action was filed.

* On April 15 at 12:02 p.m., Officer G. Williams was dispatched to MSU Cafeteria in reference to a fire alarm. Upon arriving on scene, Officer Williams noticed a lot of smoke and notified the Fire Department. Sodexho staff advised that the grill had caught on fire and the fire had been put out. Physical Plant personnel arrived to check for damage. The Fire Department cleared out the smoke and the grill was shut down until it can be repaired. There was no damage to the building.

* On April 15 at 6:59 p.m., Officer Lance was dispatched to Parkhurst Hall in reference to a fire alarm. Contact was made with the RA who advised that some residents had burned a bag of popcorn. The building was checked and the alarm reset.

* On April 17 at 10:45 p.m., Officer Yates was dispatched to Parkhurst Hall in reference to the air conditioning not working. The student, stated the air conditioning had been out for 45 minutes. On Call Physical Plant Personnel was called to fix the air conditioning.

* On April 16 at 9 a.m., Officer G. Williams was dispatched to the Depot in reference to a broken window at that location. It was obvious that someone had broken into the building. Detective Butler was notified to investigate the case.
