Registrar’s Office closes for renovation
Georgia College & State University’s Registrar’s Office will be temporarily relocated starting April 27 because of scheduled renovations.
Currently located in room 107 of Parks Hall, the office will move to room 256 of the Arts & Sciences building until the middle of July.
Registrar Sarah Scott said the renovations will serve several purposes.
“For several years now, we have asked for this office to be renovated,” Scott said. “We have platforms on both sides of the office that are really hazards. We’ve had several people who had near misses of falling. Plus, our counter is not really handicap accessible. And also just to make the office look better and be a morale booster for the staff.”
With the current design of the office, handicapped students cannot reach either the front desk where the workers sit or the student computers located on the right hand counter.
“On the side where students can come up and use the computers, we’re going to have a station primarily for handicapped students in wheelchairs so they can roll up and use a computer,” Scott said.
According to Scott, the new design will also make work easier for any handicapped student who may apply for a student assistant job in the office. In the past, a handicapped student assistant would have been unable to work the front counter and help other employees and students.
The move date directly corresponds to the time that graduation tickets will be given out. Degree Program Assistant Kathy Hill said that other arrangements have been made for April 28 and 29.
“One person is going to be in the financial aid office giving out tickets for those two days,” Hill said. “The reason we cannot be in our office is that we won’t have any computers.”
With the limited amount of space available in the temporary office, not all student files will be transferred over with the staff. Scott said the goal is to keep student inconvenience to a minimum.
“[The move] just means we are going to have to rely more on the data in the computer,” Scott said. “Everything that is in the students’ files should also be recorded in the computer so it really should not affect the time of a response to students.”
The first floor Admissions Office in 108 Parks Hall will also be renovated, starting May 2. This move should not affect any current students as the office primarily works with freshmen.
