Letters to the Editor: Public Safety Director warns city of roving police imposter
This message originally appeared on the GC&SU announce list-serve.
This morning I received information that I wanted to make the campus aware of. It appears that someone is using an older police-type vehicle equipped with law enforcement blue lights on the dash to stop motorists, question them, search their vehicle, and in one instance cuffed the driver of the vehicle with plastic pull-tight cuffs. One incident happened on N. Columbia St., the other happened down on S. Wayne St. at the Town and
Country Shopping Center.
The vehicle is described as a White Ford Crown Victoria Mercury Marquis with no police markings on it. There have been conflicting descriptions on the person impersonating the police. One description is that he is a white
male, another description is that he is a black male.
For safety’s sake: if you are being stopped by a police vehicle, be sure to pull over in a well lighted location, preferably where people are present!
Also, if you have any information about this case, please contact either Milledgeville Police Department at 414-4000, Baldwin County Sheriff’s Dept. at 445-4891, or GC&SU Police at 445-4400.
Thanks, and be careful!
Ken Vance
