The GC&SU Public Safety Report

* On Feb. 9 at 2:53 a.m., Officer Tuft was dispatched to College Station Apartments in reference to a vehicle laying drag. Officer Tuft made contact with a vehicle matching the description. The vehicle was running and there were skid marks under both rear wheels of the vehicle. Contact was made with the driver. While speaking with the man, Officer Tuft could smell the odor of an alcoholic type beverage coming from inside the vehicle. When asked if he had been drinking, the man replied that he had not. The driver consented to a Field Sobriety Test, which he failed to perform as instructed. The man tested .160 on the Intoxilyzer 5000. The driver was arrested and transported to Milledgeville Police Department and charged with DUI and Driving with Expired License. Old Capitol Wrecker towed the vehicle to their impound lot.

* On Feb. 11 at 11:37 p.m., Officer Williams was dispatched to Bobcat Village in reference to the arm of the gate being broken. There were no suspects at that time. On Feb. 12 at 3:20, an employee reported to Officer Yates that a student claimed responsibility for breaking the arm. The student reported that he used the exit instead of the entrance of the barricades. He stated the arm was stuck in the upright position and as he was driving through the gate, the arm came down on his vehicle, breaking the arm.

* On .Feb. 11 at 3:28 p.m., a man visited Public Safety to pick up a report. The man had a warrant for his arrest through Milledgeville Police Department. When Sgt. Self spoke with the man about the warrant, he fled on foot out the front door. Sgt. Self attempted to tackle the man on the front steps, but he was able to get up and flee. The man ran south on to Montgomery Street and ran into the path of a vehicle. The vehicle struck the man and he was transported to Oconee Regional Medical Center. The man was placed under arrest for Probation Violation and Obstruction of an Officer (misdemeanor). Georgia State patrol was called to work the accident.

* On. Feb. 15 at 1:10 a.m., Sgt. Ennis was on foot patrol at Green and Clark streets. Sgt. Ennis observed a vehicle stopped at the red light, the passenger roll the window down and throw an empty beer can out of the truck and into a resident’s yard. Sgt. Ennis approached the vehicle and instructed the driver to pull to the side of the road, to which the driver replied, “OK.” The truck started to pull over and then sped away. A check of the tag through GCIC showed the driver’s father’s address. Contact was made with the father and he told Sgt. Ennis where the driver lived. Sgt. Ennis located the driver and passenger. The driver was arrested and charged with Possession of Alcohol and Driving on an Expired License. The passenger was arrested and charged with Underage Possession of Alcohol and Littering. Both were turned over to Milledgeville Police Department Detention.
