The GC&SU Public Safety Report

* On Jan. 21, at 2:40 p.m., a man tried to drive his 18 wheeler across the railroad crossing at Franklin and Tattnall Streets. The trailer became lodged on the railroad track. The railroad company was notified and stopped all traffic. Old Capitol Wrecker Service was called and they moved the trailer off the tracks.

* On Jan. 26 at 4:12 p.m., Officer Ennis observed a vehicle parked on Wilkinson Street with smoke coming from under the hood. Officer Ennis could also see flames coming from under the motor. He tried to put out the fire with a fire extinguisher, but was unsuccessful. The Milledgeville Fire Department was called to the scene and extinguished the fire. The owner of the vehicle was notified.

* On Jan. 27 at 8 p.m., Officer Yates was dispatched to the new Student Activity Center in reference to a fire alarm. The Milledgeville Fire Department responded to the scene. It was found that a fog machine had been used and set the fire alarm off. Fire department personnel used a fan to get the smoke out of the building and reset the alarm.

* On Jan. 28, at 5:05 p.m., Officer Yates responded to the Student Activity center in reference to the smell of smoke inside the building. The Milledgeville Fire Department and the GC&SU Physical Plant responded and checked the building. The odor was coming from the mechanical room for the elevator. There was no smoke or fire present. Physical Plant advised that they would fix the problem.

* On Jan. 31 at 1:05 a.m., Officer Tuft was dispatched to Effingham Rd. and Main Street in reference to a student who was pulled over on a traffic stop by the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff Deputy found a small amount of marijuana in the vehicle operated by a female student. A Notice of Disciplinary Action was written on the student.

* On Jan. 31 at 3:44 p.m., a man reported that someone had poured a liquid on the hood of his vehicle that was parked in the 500 block of Greene Street. The liquid appeared to be some type of soda and the offender had also spat on the trunk of the vehicle. There are no suspects at this time.
