Public Safety Report: Chicken thief arrested after running from cops
* On Jan. 25, at 11:30 p.m., Officer D. Williams responded to the courtyard behind Parkhurst Hall in reference to persons possibly smoking marijuana. Contact was made with the complainant who said he had seen two males behind Wells smoking what he believed to be marijuana. Contact was made with the two students who agreed to a series of drug influence evaluations and Alco-Sensor test. All tests showed indication of drug impairment and both tested positive for alcohol. Both admitted to drinking alcoholic beverages and smoking marijuana on campus behind Wells. A pack of rolling papers and a very small amount of marijuana was found on top of the desk in the room. The students were arrested and transported to the Milledgeville Police Department and charged with Underage Possession/Consumption of alcohol. A student Disciplinary was filled out for both Underage Possession and Possession of marijuana on campus.
* On Jan. 20, at 9:29 p.m., Officer Yates was dispatched to Chick-fil-A in reference to theft of food. Contact was made with the Manager and he rode with Officer Ennis and was able to identify the suspect. Officer Ennis observed the suspect, a GMC student, enter a residence across from Lot #10 and entered the residence behind him. The man ran out the back door and a foot pursuit took place. The man was apprehended and admitted to taking four chicken sandwiches from Chick-fil-A. A strong odor of an alcoholic type beverage was coming from the the suspect’s person. He was arrested and transported to the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office and charged with Theft by Shoplifting and Underage Possession of Alcohol.
* On Jan. 20, at 11:57 a.m., two female students reported that a black male began touching himself sexually in front of them in the Atkinson Hall lobby. Detective Butler, Sgt. Self, Officer Sposito and Officer G. Williams searched all of the front campus and surrounding area and were unable to locate the subject. This case is under investigation.
* On Jan. 17, at 11 a.m., a construction worker at Russell Library reported that 16 scaffolding frames, 32 braces and 16 jacks were taken from the Russell Library between Jan. 13 and Jan. 14. There is no exact number of stolen items or its value. The case has been turned over to Detective Butler.
* On Jan. 7, at 11:03 p.m., Officer Dixon was dispatched to Adams Hall in reference to a fire alarm. Upon arrival, Officer Dixon observed smoke coming from under the door of one room. Milledgeville Fire Department responded and entered the room. There was no source of ignition and no smell of smoke. While searching the room, Fire Department employees located a fog machine in a closet. The machine was warm and had recently been used. After locating the source of the smoke, the fire department reset the alarm. Contact was made with the resident of the room, who admitted to leaving the Resident Hall after the alarm went off.
* On Jan. 9, at 8:25 p.m., Officer Ennis went to Wells Hall in reference to the odor of marijuana coming from one room. Contact was made with the resident and consent was given to search the room. Officer Ennis found marijuana digitally bagged, scales and cash out in plain view. The resident was arrested and transported to Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office and charged with Possession of Marijuana With Intent to Distribute (felony).
* On Jan. 5 at 11:50 a.m., Sgt. Self observed a vehicle traveling on Wayne Street with an expired tag. A traffic stop was initiated an contact was made with the driver. A GCIC check showed there was no insurance on the vehicle and the tag was expired in Oct. 2004. Sgt. Self could smell the odor of an alcoholic type beverage coming from the driver’s breath and person. A search of the vehicle also found a small off-white substance in a cigarette box believed to be crack cocaine. The suspected crack cocaine was placed into the evidence locker. The driver was arrested and transported to Milledgeville Police Department and charged with DUI (2nd offense), No Insurance and Expired Tag.
