Pop the cork then walk onto baseball team
The Georgia College & State University baseball team will hold open tryouts for walk-on players enrolled at the school on Jan. 11 at 2 p.m. Tryouts will be at John Kurtz Field on West Campus.

Spring ’05 equals tennis national ranking
The GC&SU tennis teams will once again go into the spring season ranked among the nation’s best according to the NCAA Division II Pre-season Polls released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. The women are ranked #8 in the nation, while the men are ranked #15.
On the women’s side newcomer Celine Martin is ranked #25 nationally in singles, while Anna Shchupak is ranked #49.
On the men’s court, Rodrigo Yamauti is ranked #25 in singles. The Bobcats return four players from last year’s team which went 15-8 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
The Bobcat tennis teams open the 2005 season at home on Feb. 3.
Men and women scratch their way to a win
The GC&SU basketball teams overcame sluggish starts and swept a non-conference split doubleheader Tuesday night in the Centennial Center. The GC&SU women’s bench came through with four players notching career highs in a 74-59 victory over Albany State. The Bobcats also rallied from an early deficit to defeat Savannah College of Art & Design 81-55.
GC&SU (5-0) shot 41% (27-66) from the floor and was led by LaWanna Leon’s 27 points off the bench, while Amanda Lomax also came off the bench with a career high 16 points. Cassie Miliner added a career high 11 points and 11 rebounds for her first double-double, and Lindsey Bloodworth, making the first start in her four year career, poured in a career best 11 points.
Five players scored in double figures for GC&SU (5-2) led by Roland Williams’ career high 12 points. Jeremy Mayweather and Ronnie Dennis scored 11 points apiece for the Bobcats, while Justin Dickens and Aaron Clark each scored 10 points.
The GC&SU women play at the Shaw University Classic in Raleigh, NC, while the men are off until Dec. 11 when they will play at Newberry College.
Ink up another recruit for the Lady ‘Cats
Georgia College & State University women’s basketball coach John Carrick picked up another commitment for next year as Dominique Coleman has signed on to play for the Lady Bobcats next season. Coleman is currently a sophomore at Santa Fe Community College in Gainesville, Florida.
Coleman, a 5’9″ guard, averaged 15.8 points and 5.6 rebounds per game as a freshman at Santa Fe. She is the second recruit to commit to the Lady Bobcats during the early signing period.
