SAI wins Colonnade contest

The Colonnade’s newspaper racks received a facelift last weekend courtesy of several Georgia College & State University student organizations.

The College Republicans, Zeta Phi Beta, Sigma Alpha Iota and Delta Zeta painted the racks Nov. 18 -20 to help The Colonnade and promote their organizations.

The first place winner, Sigma Alpha Iota, a professional women’s music fraternity, decorated a rack with music notes and roses.

“We really felt like this was both a great bonding activity as well as an opportunity to let people know who we are,” said Erin Stuckey, representative for the team. “We are also excited to take advantage of our boat trip on the lake.” Zeta Phi Beta and College Republicans placed second and third, respectively.

Erin Duttenhoffer, a representative for the Delta Zeta team, echoed Stuckey’s comments.

“We were so excited to be able to help The Colonnade as well as make the campus more aware of our organization,” she said.

Each of the racks, located outside the School of Education, Chappel Hall and two at Arts & Sciences, were judged Nov. 21.

The teams were judged on artistic merit, representation of The Colonnade, the proper following of guidelines, and representation of the student organization.

Ron Lunk, assistant director of student activities, and The Colonnade’s editor in chief, judged the competition.

Among the incentives for teams to volunteer was a prize package including a free pontoon boat rental on Lake Sinclair and a $25 gift certificate to The Brick.

The Colonnade encourages all students, faculty and staff to stop by the racks and admire the great work done by all the teams.
