College Republicans respond to liberals’ post-election woes
Editor:
After reading the couple of letters to the editor last week, it seems clear that several students here at GC&SU are suffering from a new physiological disorder known as PEST, or Post Election Selection Trauma. These students have accused the president of using the “bigot” vote to “wedge his way to victory.” It looks like some people are being sore losers.
The truth of the matter is that President Bush won the popular vote by three million votes. That’s a lot of people. The president also made large gains among minorities, young voters, and women in this election. This fact contradicts the belief that many liberals hold that only white, Anglo-Saxon, Protestant males vote Republican.
Liberals have also been complaining that the country is too divided, but early indications from our next government contradict that claim too. Republicans are about to appoint a pro-choice senator to the chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, which happens to be the committee that will play a major role in the conformation of any new Supreme Court justices. Democrats are about to appoint a pro-life, pro-gun Senate minority leader. Can you smell the bi-partisanship cooking?
I especially expect to see the Democratic Party becoming more centrist. Left of west liberals like John Kerry, Nancy Pelosi, and Tom Dashle hijacked the Democrats and sent them to the far left reaches of the American political spectrum. Hopefully centrist Democrats like Joe Lieberman and Harry Reid will allow cooperation with Republicans so the government can get moving and Americans can unite again.
Sincerely,
Chris Hicks
