Republicans gain confidence
Editor:
After learning the results of the elections on November 2, I am convinced more than ever that the political winds of this nation are changing. The outcome of this election makes it clear that the conservative message is taking hold with the American people. From Johnny Grant’s local victory in the state senate race to the reelection of President Bush, it is clear that the conservative agenda has received a mandate from the masses.
The popularity of Republicans is more evident than ever. President Bush received a majority of the popular vote; a feat that hasn’t been achieved since 1988. We have a majority of seats in both the House of Representatives and in the Senate. Even Tom Dashle, the Democrat’s senate leader got the boot. On the state level, the Republicans have taken control of both chambers of the legislature, both of Georgia’s senators are Republicans, and we have a Republican governor, none of which have occurred since Reconstruction.
It seems that Americans trust Republicans to preserve our values and keep us safe. John Kerry never took a firm stand on moral issues during his campaign, especially on the gay marriage issue, and it hurt him dearly. Americans also didn’t believe that returning to a defensive position on the war on terror on Ryielding our national defense to a “global test” would be wise.
I am confident that Republicans will use their majority to strengthen this nation, while uniting Americans behind a new direction of traditional values, a stronger economy, and better national defense.
