For the past seven years Dr. Gee has been writing “Far from the Beautiful Country,” an epic historical novel that chronicles the life of a Chinese-American immigrant working for the railroad in the Sierra Nevada mountains of 19th century America. It has already caught the attention of Dreamworks and filmmakers such as Steven Spielberg, who wants to read Dr. Gee’s manuscript upon its completion. He expects to be completely done with the manuscript by next month.

Music therapy majors will present their compositions in a laid-back coffeehouse setting in their “Songs for Healing: Songs in Motion” concert.
Held on Monday, Nov. 15 at 7:30 p.m. in Max Noah Recital Hall of Porter Hall, the concert will include a variety of styles “varying from rock to country,” said Dr. Chesley Mercado, director of music therapy.
