Young Democrats retaliate

Before I start, I must admit that I fear this letter will be seen in the way that I saw the College Republican’s letter, childish and counterproductive to the very political discourse they claim to encourage. I have nothing against the CR’s, or any Republicans for that matter. In fact, I salute the CR’s for at least having a position on world affairs, even if I do not agree with it.

Contrary to the letter from the last week, I did not cancel the debate because we didn’t have “enough interest.” I called it off because when I visited their Web site I found something very rude that personally attacked my group. That, along with a long history of rudeness and disrespect led me to the only logical choice, which was refusing to help them spew their nonsense. Call me old-fashioned, but for me to work with you, you have to show just a little respect.

This whole ordeal is childish beyond belief. Their letter last week made it sound like we burned their houses to the ground. We merely canceled an event. I’m deeply sorry if anyone was losing sleep over the debate being canceled, but the sun still rose in the east, and civilization didn’t crumble.

Myself and the YD’s have always tried to live by the WWJD creed. What Would Jay-Z Do? We think he’d brush his shoulders off, so we do that on almost a constant basis (whenever the CR’s attack us).

Maybe this is why the “Executive Director” is so “very disappointed” in the “lack of opposition.” There’s no lack of opposition sir, only a lack of us following you down the low road. When you refuse to play dirty, it really irks those that play dirty. This is why people are so turned off to politics, because people like that (on both sides) make it so negative. Last week’s lie-packed letter that claimed we backed out because we weren’t interested assures me that I made the right choice.

I wish the CR’s nothing but the best of luck (except in elections) but don’t think we are bound to work with you when you act immature. I extend an invitation to bury this hatchet with the CR’s, but my breath will not be held.

Most importantly, my last name is Speir, not Spears. You should know how to spell the names of the people you are so “very disappointed” in.
