2 out of 12: Ain’t bad for Lady Bobcats
Georgia College & State University’s women’s basketball team is picked to finish second out of 12 teams in the Peach Belt Conference preseason coaches poll. The Lady Bobcats posted a record of 28-6 last season, a school record. The team won the Peach Belt Tournament Championship and also reached the Sweet Sixteen in the NCAA Division II Tournament. Armstrong Atlantic State is the preseason favorite. The Lady Bobcat’s first game is at home Nov. 16 against West Georgia.
8 out of 12: Sellers aims to improve pick
The men’s basketball team was picked to finish eighth out of 12 teams in the Peach Belt Conference preseason coaches poll. Last season, the Bobcats struggled and finished with a 7-22 record. Head coach Terry Sellers believes a solid recruiting class will help the squad. Defending National Champion Kennesaw State is picked to finish first. The team opens the season at home Nov. 15 against Newberry College.
Home court advantage serves Bobcats
The women’s tennis team won three out of five flights at the Alltel Fall Women’s Tennis Championship held at the Centennial Center Tennis facility Oct. 8-10. The Lady Bobcats won the “B” and “C” draws as well as the “B” doubles championships. Anna Davisson won the “B” singles flight, while Jessica McKnight won the “C” singles flight. The “B” doubles was won by the duo of McKnight and Sofia Intriago. This was the last fall tournament for the women’s tennis team before the Alumni Match Oct. 23.
Tillery goes 3-under par, brings medal home
The golf team finished second of 15 teams at the Presbyterian College Intercollegiate Tournament held at Musgrove Mill Golf Course Oct. 10-12. Senior John Tillery shot a 69 to take home medalist honors. Johan Cronvall finished third overall, while Carter Collins finished tied for 14th. The tournament wrapped up the fall season for the Bobcats.
Intramurals: the last undefeated squads
As of Oct. 11, there were ten undefeated teams left in the two men’s and women’s intramural flag football leagues. In the men’s A league, Pi Kappa Alpha (4-0), Caucasian Invasion (3-0), and More Cowbell (4-0) still retain a zero in the loss column. In the men’s B league, T Unit (5-0), Smith’s Mom (4-0), and We Don’t Care (4-0) remain the only undefeated teams.
In the women’s league, only AwwSnap (4-0), Has Beens (3-0), Terrell Troops (3-0) and Alpha Delta Phi (5-0) hold down the undefeated spots.
