Record setting runs in ‘Frisco
Freshman Michael Hague ran the fastest 8k time in school history on Oct.2 in the Gator Invitational in San Francisco. Hague clocked in at 26:56, breaking the previous school record of 26:59 held by James Black. GC&SU men’s cross country team finished last of four teams but added several names to the school record book. David Berglund finished 11th with a time of 27:01 for the third fastest time in school history. Michael Demarest finished in 12th place with a time of 27:02 for the fourth fastest time in school history.
Women fall to defending champs
The women’s soccer team lost 2-0 to defending national champions Kennesaw State University Oct. 2. The Lady Bobcats (4-4-1) were only able to muster one shot against the Division I Owls (7-2). The victory gives Kennesaw’s head coach Rob King his 50th career victory.
Collins & Tillery drive golf team
Carter Collins and John Tillery helped the golf team to a fourth place finish at the AFLCA/Cougar Invitational on Oct.4-5. Collins shot rounds of 69,73 and 75, while Tillery shot 75,71 and 71 to finish with identical scores of 217. The duo tied for sixth place overall. The Bobcats wrap up the fall season at the Presbyterian College Intercollegiate Tournament Oct. 10-12.
Tennis teams go deep in NC
The men’s and women’s tennis teams both advanced far in the Intercollegiate Tennis Regional Tournament. On the men’s side, Rodrigo Yamauti won his opening round singles match 6-3; 6-0 before withdrawing from his second round match because of an injury. Marcel Ferreira won his opening round singles match 6-2; 6-2 but lost in the second round. Renato Oliveira also won his first round singles match.
On the women’s side, Anna Shchupak won her first two singles matches in straight sets before losing in the round of 16. Freshman Celine Martine played solid and reached the quarter final round before bowing out. Chenelle Kruger also won her first two singles matches. The women will be back in action at home Oct. 8-10 in the Alltel Women’s Fall Championships.
