SAO supports breast cancer awareness
Sigma Alpha Omega (SAO), the first and only Christian female sorority on campus, has plans to support breast cancer awareness in the near future.
SAO, now a national organization with a national board, is planning to tie in breast cancer awareness with their service projects in upcoming months.
“Breast cancer is something that all women must think about,” Erin Watts, charter sister of SAO, said. “This semester, we definitely want to reach out in the college community as well as the Milledgeville community.”
Aside from contemplating about service project ideas, SAO has been busy this semester taking on their second Beta pledge class. This semester’s pledge class contains 22 pledges and 15 remaining sisters.
“We prayed that God would send us the girls that were supposed to be here with us,” Crystal Bracewell, SAO sister, said. “We were ecstatic that so many girls wanted to rush this semester. We believe that each of these girls were sent to SAO for a purpose, and every one of them will help us grow not only as a sorority, but also with our walks with God.”
Formed as a sister sorority to Chi Alpha Omega Fraternity in January 1998, the sisters of SAO are committed to living according to the ideals of Christ and His Word.
“The main goal of SAO is to build each other up through the Lord,” Watts said. “[In chartering SAO], we all felt the Lord was speaking to us and telling us there was a need for a group of Christian women to grow together as women in the Lord.”
Until SAO was formed, the Beta Chapter of Chi Alpha Omega at North Carolina State University was a coed Christian fraternity. The active brothers, both male and female, voted to form SAO in hopes of benefiting young women who wish to grow a closer relationship with God.
Through Bible studies, social activities, retreats and service projects, SAO teaches young women how to uplift each other through fellowship and service, bringing the love of Christ to Georgia College and State University.
“SAO is a great way to get involved and enjoy college life while continuing to grow in your faith as a child of God,” Bracewell said.
