GC&SU welcomes head baseball Coach Calciano
Georgia College & State University has named Chris Calciano the new head baseball coach. He takes over for Steve Mrowka who left for George Washington University in August. Calciano was the head baseball coach at West Chester University, a Division II program, in Pennsylvania. At West Chester, Calciano posted a 120-77-3 record and reached the NCAA Division II tournament two years in a row.
Lady Bobcats first conference match results in tie
After two overtime periods, the Georgia College & State University women’s soccer team obtained a 1-1 against Lander University on Sept. 25 at Bobcat Field. The Lady Bobcats (4-3-1, 0-0-1 PBC) scored early in the game with Mindy Crow’s first goal of the season but were not able to hold on to the lead against the Lady Bearcats (4-1-2, 0-0-2 PBC). Both teams were held scoreless in the two overtime periods. GC&SU out-shot Lander 15-13.
Men and women get running and finish fast
The men’s cross country team won the Oglethorpe Invitational Sept. 25 and the top three runners in the race were all Bobcats. David Berglund won the race with a time of 31:11. The rounding out the top three for the Bobcats was Peter Robertson in second place with a time of 32:07 and Michael Demarest in third place with a time of 32:10.
The women’s cross country team finished second in the Oglethorpe Invitational. Crystal Sutton led the Lady Bobcats finishing in fifth place with a time of 22:51. Rounding out the top three for the team was Bethany Loushine in sixth place with a time of 23:08 and Kelley Fleischmann in ninth place with a time of 23:27.
