Cross country running faster
Georgia College & State University men’s cross country team finished 3rd out of seven teams at the Mercer Invitational. David Berglund logged the fastest time for the team at 29:04 finishing in 9th place. Rounding out the top three for the Bobcats was Michael Hague finishing 11th with a time of 29:43 and Michael Demarest right behind his teammate in 12th place with a time of 29:58. Kennesaw State University won both the men’s and women’s races.
The women’s cross country team finished 4th out of eight teams. Bethany Loushine led the Lady Bobcats with a time of 22:14 good enough for 20th place. Rounding out the top three for the team was Crystal Sutton finishing 23rd with a time of 22:26 and Jennifer Keeton finished on the heels of her teammate in 24th place with a time of 27:29.
The next race for the men’s and women’s team will be the Ogelthorpe Invitational held Sept. 25.
Soccer loses late
The women’s soccer team three game winning streak was snapped against North Georgia College & State University. The Lady Bobcats lost 2-1 to the Lady Saints in double overtime at Bobcat Field Sept. 19. The goal scored is the first goal that the Lady Bobcats have given up in two games and only the second goal in four games. GC&SU was out-shot 19-13.
Soccer loses again
The women’s soccer team lost to the University of Montevallo 2-1. This is the second straight loss for the Lady Bobcats (4-3) following a streak where they won three in a row. Mandy Cochran scored the lone goal for the team. The Lady Bobcats were out-shot 17-13.
Next match for women
The women’s soccer team starts Peach Belt Conference play Sept. 25 against Lander University (4-1-2). The Bobcats (4-3) are coming off two straight loses. Last season the Bobcats lost to Lander 2-0. Sophomore Tami Pissott leads the team with five goals which has helped the Lady Bobcats outscore their opponents 12-8 on the season.
The women’s soccer team takes on the University of North Florida (3-0-2) Sept. 26. The Lady Bobcats did not play against North Florida last season. Both games will be played at Bobcat Field.
Tennis match coming up
The men’s tennis teams is competing in the 4th annual Alltel Men’s Fall Tennis Championship Sept. 24-26. The tournament is being held at the Centennial Center. Head Tennis Coach Steve Barsby looks to sophomore Rodrigo Yamauti to led the team.
“He’s probably the best player we have brought in here in two or three years,” said Barsby.
Collins leads golf team
The golf team finished 8th in a 13-team field at the Raines Development Group Intercollegiate. The Bobcats were led by Carter Collins who shot rounds of 77, 70 and 71 to finish two over par. The low score gave Collins 2nd place overall. John Tilery was tied for 28th place with rounds of 80, 75 and 74 while Johan Cronvall shot rounds of 75, 80 and 76 to finish tied for 36th place. Virginia Commonwealth won the tournament.
