Religious organizations offer variety of options

The campus of Georgia College & State University is brimming with opportunities for religious expression.

Regardless of denomination, all of the groups are unified bodies that believe in and worship the same Lord. Each organization invites anyone to come and worship with them.

The Baptist Student Union meets Tuesdays at 8 p.m. either in the Arts & Sciences auditorium or at the First Baptist Church of Milledgeville. The auditorium is filled with a diverse group of students involved. Anyone can come and enjoy the live music and special guest speakers.

“BSU has been a huge part in my growth as a person and more importantly as a Christian. You don’t have to be a Baptist to come to BSU. If you’re at all interested in anything that the BSU does, I encourage you to come. Even if you’re not a Christian and you’re just curious, you’re welcome!” said Alex Monroe, an active member of the BSU.

If you are interested in the BSU, contact Campus Minister Mitch Wesley for more information.

Students interested in an interdenominational approach should check out Campus Outreach, directed by Glen Wilkins.

The group meets Wednesday evenings at 7 p.m. in the Peabody Auditorium. Along with “180,” this group also has Friday night events, weekend retreats, Christmas conference and much more.

“We invite you to come have fun with us and be a part of what the Lord is doing both on our campus and throughout the world,” said Campus Outreach member Kristal Borden.

Wesley Foundation, directed by Rev. Bill Baker, is sponsored by the United Methodist Church, but accepts anyone who wishes to worship.

They meet Wednesdays at 8 p.m. in Maxwell Student Union. The meetings include a live worship band, creative arts, a message from Baker and prayer.

“Wesley became a home for me. It’s where I came to know the true, real God who is madly in love with me,” said Eric Fletcher, Wesley House intern.

Another Christian organization on campus is CCF, who meets Thursday nights at the First Christian Church of Milledgeville. To start the night, CCF prepares a home-cooked meal that is available at 6:15 p.m., followed by an hour of worship at 7 p.m. Along with Thursday night worship, they also offer small group meetings and Bible studies that promote spiritual growth.

Diverse Body of Christ is sponsored by Fellowship Bible Baptist Church in Warner Robins and led by Pastor Dr. Will L. Reid Sr. They meet Monday nights at 7:15 p.m. in the Arts & Science Auditorium.

“This ministry is geared toward reconciliation between people and people and God,” says Demetrius Nelson, a member of DBC.

The religious organizations operating on campus give each student an opportunity to join an organization that reflects and supports their spiritual needs. If you are interested in any of these organizations, information is available at numerous locations on campus, including MSU and local Milledgeville churches.
