And Win Again
The GC&SU women’s soccer continued its stellar play on Sept 12 with a 2-0 victory over South Carolina State University. The win is the Lady Bobcats first against a Division I opponent. Junior Tami Pissott continued her solid play providing her fifth goal of the season and third in two games. Freshman Britni Emerson also found the back of the net for the second time in as many games. GC&SU moves to 4-1 on the season and tallies its second straight shutout.
Disappoint in Cross Country
The GC&SU men’s cross country team finished a disappointing sixth out of eleven teams at the Georgia State University Invitational. The race was held Sept 11 and was the season opener for the men’s team. In the men’s 8k, David Berglund logged the fastest time at 28:33, finishing in 24th place. Rounding out the top three for the team was Michael Hague finishing 30th with a time of 29:15 and Michael Demarest in 33rd place with a time of 29:58.
The women’s cross country fared no better in the Georgia State University Invitational. In the 5k, GC&SU finished eighth in the ten-team field. Bethany Loushine logged the quickest time for the Lady Bobcats finishing in 21:54, good enough for 35th place. Rounding out the top three for the team was Crystal Sutton in 42nd place with a time of 22:33 and Jennifer Keeton in 43rd place with a time of 22:41. This was the second race of the season for the Lady Bobcats.
New Assistant Coach
Tabitha Vasilas has been named GC&SU women’s basketball team assistant coach. Vasilas takes over for Jonathon Babaree who recently left for a similar position at Furman University. She worked as an assistant coach at Southern Wesleyan University last season. Vasilas played collegiate basketball for two seasons at Southern Wesleyan before transferring to Clemson University for her final two seasons.
Ivan Affects GC&SU Soccer
The women’s home soccer game against West Georgia on Sept. 18 has been cancelled. Concern regarding Hurricane Ivan prompted the decision. A home make-up game has been tentatively scheduled for Sept. 21 against Monetevallo. The women’s soccer game at home against North Georgia on Sept 19 is still scheduled.
