Moran brings leadership to women’s soccer
Many athletes claim to have their sport running through their blood, but Meridith Moran finds that having a talent in soccer is all in her family.
Her dad played professional soccer in Belgium, and taught her how to play the game. Matt, her brother was the main influence in her interest in the sport. She looked up to her brother and wanted to be just like him.
“I did everything my brother did,” Moran said. “He played soccer, I played soccer. He got a bowl cut, I got a bowl cut.”
Moran, a graduate of Brookwood High School comes to Georgia College & State University from Snellville, Ga. Her most memorable moment is when she won the state championship with Brookwood.
Moran brings experience to the Lady Bobcats. She is a transfer student from Catawba College in Salisbury, N.C. She fills a much-needed gap in center midfield and provides leadership. A definite leader on the team, Moran is a dangerous threat to opponents. She understands the game and can read strategies well, which gives her many opportunities to score.
“She has a good balance of attacking and defensive skills,” Lady Bobcats head coach Robert Parr said.
When not on the field, Moran spends her spare time in a variety of ways. Her favorite subject in school is science, which explains her interest in science fiction. She is an avid reader of the Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings series. She has a job as a waitress at Ruby Tuesdays and has strong cravings for Italian food. On and off the field she is characterized by a quiet but determined attitude.
“She is a fairly quiet person but, when she wants the ball she will let you know it,” said Parr.
