Girls Ok’d for paintball
Interim Coordinator of Intramural and Outdoor Programs Mark Meisner has confirmed women will be permitted to play in the intramural paintball tournament, despite the fall intramural calendar states only men will be allowed to participate, Georgia College & State University’s Interim Coordinator of Intramural and Outdoor Programs said.
Mark Meisner, Interim Coordinator, said the standard entry forms will be used for the paintball sign-up. All entrants will be asked to specify a division, and a women’s division will now be listed.
The paintball tournament will be held at Splatters Outdoor Adventure, outside of Milledgeville. It was added to the intramural schedule before Meisner’s arrival at GC&SU.
According to Meisner, listing only a men’s division most likely only implies that men will be more interested in paintball. Sign-up is not limited in any way.
“The only thing is that [women] will need to be cognizant of is that there is not a lot of female participation,” Meisner said. “The divisions would have to be mixed.”
The paintball tournament can most easily be compared to the dunk contest held in the spring. This contest is open to women as well.
Some women on campus do not seem to care that only a men’s division was listed for the paintball tournament on the intramural calendar, while others thought that there should at least be a coed division so the women who want to participate do not feel excluded.
“Sure, [getting hit] does hurt,” said senior Amy Davenport, “but women can wear protective gear and play, too.”
GC&SU’s first intramural paintball tournament is scheduled to begin November 6. Rosters are due November 2.
