GC&SU preps for hurricane season
Students should take precautions as Hurricane Ivan and future hurricanes make landfall throughout the hurricane season, June 1-Nov. 30.
The effects of the storm will be similar to those of Hurricane Frances. Heavy rainfall and strong winds are the main concerns for this area.
Mitch Clarke sent out a university-wide e-mail detailing the precautions students should take in preparing for the storm. Students are advised to shut off any unnecessary electronic machines and to obtain flashlights in case of power outages Clarke also suggests that student should monitor The Info Page for advisories and class cancellations.
Residence Hall students should monitor weather conditions regularly and take precations accordingly. Residents are encouraged to stay inside during severe weather.
Hurricane Frances blew through the campus of Georgia College & State University last week. Severe power outages were felt throughout the campus community and classes were cancelled Tuesday.
Damage extended into neighboring counties and closed schools in 40 area school systems.
Public safety officials ask students not to call their emergency line to check the status of class cancellations.
