Books and Brew plans for official grand opening
The deep aroma of roasted coffee beans coming from the cyber caf? Books and Brew can be smelled upon walking through the sliding doors of the Russell Library.
Mike Haun, retail and marketing manager of Sodexho, said they’re gearing up for an exciting grand opening slated for Sept. 26.
“We’re having z97.7 broadcast live and we’re going to have free product samples and t-shirt giveaways in the form of a raffle,” said Haun.
“We’re really trying to reach out to the community. I want Sodexho to be a partner to the student, university and community, and if the community does business with us it’s going to help the university.”
The long-awaited caf? addition to the campus is incredibly convenient for students and faculty.
“The coffee shop is great,” said senior middle grades education major Emily Tanner. “It’s really convenient because it’s closer to my classes in Arts & Sciences than the Chick-fil-a.”
Keely French, who works at the caf?, said business has been strong.
“We have spurts. The busiest times are between classes, then we have slow times, then the builds back up.”
French said working at Books and Brew has defiantly been an eye-opening experience.
“I have a new-found appreciation for coffee which I didn’t have before. The people are great in here and it seems the people who come in really enjoy our products and are used to dealing with Starbucks and are excited about having one Milledgeville.”
The caf? offers a variety of cold and hot Starbucks beverages that range from $2 to $3 for a tall, $3 to $4 for a grande and $3.40 to $4 for a venti. They also carry pastries and assorted snacks that range from $1 to $2 each. Students can use their Bobcat Card or cash to make purchases at the Books and Brew.
The current hours of operation are Monday through Thursday 7 a.m. till 11 p.m., Friday 7 a.m. till 5 p.m., closed on Saturday and Sunday 3 p.m. till 9 p.m. The hours are subject to change after the grand opening.
