Ashlee will make you want to “LaLa”
Breaking out of her older sister Jessica’s shadow, Ashlee Simpson makes a statement that she is her own person with her new album, “Autobiography,” and she has many songs to prove it.
Although Ashlee has gotten a lot of flak about her vocals not comparing to Jessica’s, at least she admits it and is courageous enough to take a stand and be real, not caring what people think.
Her voice is a mix between Gwen Stefani and Courtney Love, and her lyrics are a cross between Michelle Branch songs and Avril Lavigne songs.
With her newly-dyed dark brown hair, Ashlee proves that she is the anti-Jessica, and took more of a rock-etched, poppy approach to her “Autobiography” album, staying away from the “bubblegum pop” that Jessica is so famous for.
Though her voice is a bit raspy when first hearing the album, it doesn’t take long to get past that and sing along to her many catchy tracks, such as “LaLa,”"Love Me for Me,” “Shadow,” and her hit summer tune, “Pieces of Me.” Best of all, she writes her own lyrics!
In her song,”Shadow,” Ashlee spills her childhood bitterness over her sister’s attention-craving career in a touching ballad. In “Pieces of Me,” she writes about finally experiencing a love that’s real. “LaLa” will more than likely be her new hit song because of its catchy lyrics.
Ashlee’s “Autobiography” album not only reveals the maturity in her adolescence, but also shows off her ability to create different sounds mixing punk, pop and rock. By singing about the most important aspects of her life, such as love, finding her own identity, breakups and life in general, Ashlee’s songs are all full of emotion.
With her tomboyish charm and rapid recent success, Ashlee is here to stay for awhile. Though she has gotten a lot of unnecessary flak about her “Autobiography” album, at least she knows chicken from tuna.
