GC&SU has at last instituted a system that pleases everyone.

The new Bobcat Card has become an essential around campus.

In order to workout at the Depot, students must bring their Bobcat Cards. In order to eat, make an appointment at the health center, or checkout a book in the library, the card is needed.

All food services offered on campus accept CatCash, so there’s no excuse to get burnt out on “saga food.” Books and Brew, in the library, accepts the Bobcat Card so students can get another jolt while clocking-in long hours studying.

In addition to the many services the card already links students to, the school has created a system in which students can pay for their books with the money placed on their Bobcat Card. By directly loading the card with money, the hassle of transferring funds and waiting for banks to pass checks is eliminated. It’s just much more convenient to deposit the check directly onto the Bobcat Card so the money is there instantly.

Students use their Bobcat Cards for entry to some dorm rooms. In order to drive into the residential parking lot at Bobcat Village, students must swipe their card at the gate and then swipe it again at their door, increasing security.

Better yet, the system is working. In fact it’s one of the most successful new programs at GC&SU.

Since depositing began at the beginning of August a total of $314,000 has been put on the Bobcat Cards. The total includes totals that rolled over from last year’s Flex Dollars, a feature no one thought would be available.

Not only are students and parents depositing money, they’re spending it. $111,000 of food, books and other expenditures have been clocked.

Eventually the card will be accepted many more places around campus like the computer labs and laundry rooms. By Fall 2005, the Bobcat Card can be used with off-campus businesses as a debit card.

We can only hope things are as smooth the second time around.
