What will these newly elected Senators do to help student life on campus?
One thing all senators are involved in is committees. These committees provide the workings for policy change and most of the research of issues that may arise in the Senate:
Academic Affairs is the committee that works to see academic policies change on campus. Everything from new majors and minors to getting the Drop/Add period extended to five days.
Student Services is the committee that deals with student life concerns and services provided on campus. They make changes in everything from bus policy to food service concerns.
The Internal/External committee handles the internal affairs of SGA as they arise.
The Student Academic Travel Support Fund Committee (ATFC) is composed of six senators and chaired by the Treasurer of Student Government. In conjunction with the Office of Experiential Learning, it provides limited partial funding to students who are presenting research at an academic conference. Funding is on a first come first serve basis and limited to 80% of fundable expenses with a $500 maximum. Anyone interested in receiving funding or who would like more information can contact the SGA office or the Office of Experiential Learning. The form is also available online at http://www.gc&su.edu/acad_affairs/experiential/aca_travel.html.
