GC&SU theatre will hit the stage with diverse material
Whether you’re into science fiction or classical tragedies, this year’s Georgia College & State University’s theater line-up has something for you.
“We purposefully picked a season that kind of starts out light and gets darker as the season goes on,” said Theater Director Kathleen McGeever.
The lightest performance will be David Ives’ “All in the Timing,” a series of 14 one acts; Georgia College & State University students will perform seven of the 14.
“This is a side-splittingly funny, wonderful, quirky look at humanity,” said McGeever.
The playwright, Tina Howell, will be visiting GC&SU’s campus soon, so the theater department has decided to perform her play, “Museum.” According to McGeever, this is a creative production that should make students feel like they’re a part of the action.
“We’re going to ask the audience to, in a way, participate,” said McGeever. “They’ll step into the museum, and then the play will take place as if they are in the museum.”
McGeever said students will be able to connect with “Museum’s”characters because they are like people they see every day.
Euripides’ “The Trojan Women” will expose the darker side of the season.
“This play takes place after the war has been won and the women are left. The Greeks have taken and killed all the men of Troy, either in battle over the 10 years of war or they’ve killed the ones they’ve conquered,” McGeever said.
Two guest artists will be coming on campus this year, offering a wide range of talents.
Joan Shirley from Del Arte International will introduce her “Second Skin,” a creative collaboration of movement, dance and masks portraying the living soul of Marilyn Monroe. Later, Tim Mooney will give GC&SU a thrill with his one-man, sci-fi production, “Criteria.”
The final and darkest performance of the year will be John Hurley’s student show. Hurley will showcase the knowledge he has gained at GC&SU in his presentation. While details are still in the works, McGeever said she is expecting a “wow” from Hurley.
