GC&SU Photography Competition highlights Georgia Archives Week
The Georgia College & State University Library is accepting submissions from the public to “Putting It on the Map,” a photo competition being held in observance of Georgia Archives Week Oct. 3-9.
“Putting It on the Map” is open to residents of Baldwin and the surrounding counties. Subjects of photographs should be landscapes, buildings, or other landmarks in Milledgeville or the surrounding counties of historical or cultural significance, said Nicole Mitchell, assistant archivist at the library.
Submissions may be black and white or color 8-by-10 photographs, and should be matted in white with black frames not to exceed 16-by-20 inches. Submissions must be the work of the photographer and are limited to three submissions per photographer. Each submission must be accompanied by a completed entry form. All submissions must have the following information on the back: photographer’s name, phone number and/or e-mail address, and a title for the photo.
There is no entry fee. Photos will not be returned, and they become the property of GC&SU Library’s Special Collections. Frames will be returned at the photographer’s request. Photographers retain the copyright to all photographs entered.
By submitting photographs to the competition, photographers give permission for the photographs to be used by Special Collections free of charge for promotional purposes, which may include, but not limited to, use on publications, flyers, posters, and the web site with attribution to the photographer. Photographers also give permission for entries to be mounted in an exhibit at the Museum and Archives of Georgia Education during Georgia Archives Week.
All submissions are due by 4 p.m., Sept. 24. For more details and to print an entry form, visit:

Archives Week will also feature a number of other activities, including a walking tour of downtown, workshop on map-making, lecture, and treasure hunt.
