Women’s varsity soccer readies for strong inaugural season
The women’s soccer team begins their inaugural season of varsity play this year with high ambitions. Their goal as a team is to win the national championship.
“If you don’t set your standards high, there is no point,” commented coach Robert Parr
The team this year is made up of 37 players and has incredible depth. The team can continue a strong level of play even when the starting line-up is not on the field. The team is also very versatile. They possess outstanding talent in every area of play. The team has excellent chemistry and communicates very well. “Communication is a big factor in the way we play,” remarked sophomore Allyson Rogers.
The team has developed certain strategies for this season. They plan to control the ball and run the game at their own pace. “The team is most effective when we have control,” observed coach Parr. The team also has a solid defense to complement their offense. “The best part about this team is that they are all learning the new system together,” stated Assistant Athletics Director for Public Relations Brad Muller.
The team put up an impressive demonstration in an exhibition game last Wednesday beating Wesleyan College 10 to 0. Allyson Rogers, Meredith Moran, and Britini Emerson all scored two goals in the game. The team finished the preseason 2 and 1 and will begin their season on Saturday at Converse College in Spartanburg, South Carolina and will then travel to Greenville, Tennessee to play Tusculum on Sunday. The team’s first home game will be Friday, September 3 at 7 p.m. against Anderson College. Their toughest challenge this season will be when they travel to Kennesaw to play the defending national champion owls.
