The Voice
For the past number of years, The Colonnade staff has published a column in the opinions section and this year is no different. Sometimes they deal with things in the past, but this time it’s about our future.
After two successful years under the editorship of Ryan Schomber, the new school year brings new life to The Colonnade, both on and off the page: new staff, new deadlines and new opportunities for your department or organization to be heard.
With only one returning editor, the Colonnade staff is full of fresh faces. Amy Keith, one of last year’s most dedicated writers, will take on the task of news editor this year, as will Christina Homer in the variety section. Michael Rifenburg, assistant sports editor for The Colonnade last year, returns as editor of that section. Lindsey Glaser, an advertising representative from last year, will head our advertising department this year.
A new staff brings new procedures designed to produce a timely paper, but we could never do it without you. The Colonnade is always looking for leads to follow or events to cover. Is your department sponsoring an upcoming event? E-mail or call The Colonnade, and we’ll do what we can to make sure your story is published.
Did you know that GC&SU organizations get a BIG break on advertising costs? We’ll even create your ad at no cost. Advertising arrangements should be made by the Tuesday before the Friday of publication.
Also, The Colonnade is introducing a faculty column to appear in the editorial section. Throughout the year, it is our hope that professors and administrators will come forward to express their opinions on local, national or international events, thus creating a dialogue between students and faculty. With President Dorothy Leland offering our first column, it’s safe to say we’re off to a good start.
All students are welcome to join our staff as writers or photographers. Our first meeting of the 2004-2005 school year is August 23 at 4 p.m. in our office downstairs in MSU.
Have a great year!
