Young arm, ageless talent

After the Georgia College & State University softball team’s success last year, they attracted attention from very talented high school seniors all over the country.
Jenna Kubesch is one of those talented young players.
“The team was very successful last year,” said Kubesch. “With a little luck, we can be just as, if not more, competitive than last year.”
Kubesch graduated from Weimar High School in Weimar, Texas. In high school, she helped her school win back-to-back State Championships.
She won 2A and Tri-County MVP Honors in her last three years at Weimar High School. She earned The Victoria Advocate twice, and received the Booster Club and Sportswriters MVP three times. As a sophomore, she was also the The Victoria Advocate Pitcher of the Year.
Kubesch was a Texas All-Star participant who also took home District MVP and Academic All-District honors three times. She was named the District and Tri-County Newcomer of the Year as a freshman, and she was a four-year letter-winner in volleyball, earning First Team All-District honors twice.
Her decision to come to GC&SU was due in large part to the recruiting of Head Coach Windy Thees.
Kubesch feels at ease in both the batter’s box as well as in the pitcher’s circle. Kubesch is third on the team in batting avg. (.309) and first in home runs (9). During her off days, it’s not a surprise to find her in the lineup.
“I don’t feel that it’s a strain to be in the lineup on days I’m not pitching,” said Kubesch. “If there’s any way that I can help my team when I’m not pitching, then it’s not that bad to hit on my days off.”
Kubesch tossed a no-hitter and broke a GC&SU single season record for stikeouts, with 15 at the Catawba Tournament over spring break.
“When I broke the record I didn’t even realize it until after the game when Coach Thees came up and congratulated me,” said Kubesch. “I also didn’t realize that I had a no-hitter in the other game until I heard coach yell ‘infield, dive’ in the last inning.”
In three games of the tournament, Kubesch allowed only four hits and no runs, while striking out 33 batters. The no-hitter marked the sixth time that it has happened in GC&SU history.
With a potent bat and a powerful arm, Kubesch looks to bring the Lady Bobcats plenty of opportunities to win games over the next few years.
