And your point is …
As I write my last column for The Colonnade, so many things run through my head.
The idea of never staying up late on a Wednesday night and waking up early Thursday morning seems out of place.
I liked, no loved, my job the past two years as the editor of The Colonnade. I busted my butt for you readers. My goal, after taking over my junior year, was to give the student body the best newspaper possible. I felt if I didn’t do that, then my job as editor went unfulfilled.
I also tried to make the paper better each week, if you didn’t think I did that, then I’m sorry. I know the paper has mistakes, but people don’t understand that we are college students just like the rest of the student body. Mistakes happen in everything you do; even the Atlanta Journal & Constitution has mistakes.
I made several friends and probably several enemies while being editor of this fabulous newspaper. To me, the only way you’re going to get a response from anyone is to spice things up a little bit and make some noise. I felt like that’s what we did: made some noise.
I want to thank some important people who have helped me through the past four years.
My family, thank you so much for helping me get through the first part of college. I love you kids, and thank you for believing in me.
Dr. Ginger Carter, where do I start? From the classroom to The Colonnade to Relay For Life to softball games, you have been there. You were my third mother and that will not change. Thank you for believing in me and always guiding me through the good and bad times as editor. Thank you for everything, Gschomber.
Rich Hardvick, from staying up late (4 a.m.) to football goals, it’s been fun. What can I say? Sometimes you needed a kick in the butt, but then again, we all do at sometime. Vick, good luck with all that you will do next semester with the T.V. station, but really, I am going to see you, so get ready for church ball.
Jenny, you always have a smile on your face. You are a very talented writer and person who will go far in life because you have your priorities straight. Thank you for so many great memories.
Joy, what can I say? Whatever I needed you to do you were there, thank you. From taking pictures to writing three stories a week, you did it and did it well. Joy, you really made working on the paper so much easier.
Victoria and Danielle, it seemed like just yesterday I met Victoria in Dr. Carter’s office. A year and a half later she added a 40-year-old to the staff. Seriously, thank you two girls for doing what you do, without you crazy kids the paper would be horrible (I wish people could read everything before you two see it).
Courtney, you made the voice extremely interesting this year. Thank you for always being able to write and write well. You and Kyle made the editorials page so good for the entire year. Don’t forget two things: one, the crazy messages we leave each other and two, we give ‘bows around here.
Megan, although you are currently not working with the paper as I write this, thank you for everything you did. In the almost two years I worked with you, you made the job fun and exciting everyday, thank you.
Annie, you are such a great person with great goals set for yourself. You deserve anything you want, so go get it.
David Johnson, thank you for always knowing the right thing to do. Your leadership was great for the past year, good luck in the future.
Bo, congratulations on becoming editor of The Colonnade. It is a tough job, but then again so is everything else. You are making great strides at becoming a good editor and have picked out a talented group for next year’s staff.
Lindsay, you are a very talented person who has great design abilities. Keep up the good work and have fun next year making all that money.
Balls Deep Softball, guys we had a good run but all good things must come to an end. White and Mook, thank you guys for always wanting to eat at 3 a.m. and letting me lose in NBA Live, MVP and Madden; I am sure all of this will continue.
I guess that’s about it. I had a great time bringing you, the readers, the news and will never forget my two years as editor of The Colonnade. Thank you.
