Zapata named Spring’s Emerging Student Leader

The Georgia College & State University chapter of Omicron Delta Kappa recently selected its Emerging Student Leader for spring semester 2004.
Zach Zapata, a native of Evans, Ga., is a freshman biology major at GC&SU. He is also a resident assistant in Wells Hall, a GC&SU student ambassador and captain of the Milledgeville Police Department Explorer Post.
Zapata will serve as the leader for summer orientation and is also a member of Alpha Lambda Delta. He was a Residence Hall Association representative, as well as a member of the Terrell Hall Council.
“I am honored to have been nominated and selected for such a prestigious award,” Zapata said in a recent press release. “I realize that I am in the company of our best leaders on campus, and I will do my best to serve GC&SU during my time here.”
The Omicron Delta Kappa Society is the national leadership honor society for college students, faculty, staff, administrators and alumni that recognizes and encourages superior scholarship, leadership and exemplary character. Membership into this organization is a mark of the highest distinction and honor, with emphasis placed on the development of the whole person, both as a member of the college community and as a contributor to a better society.
Zapata is also nominated for the Emerging Student Leader of the Year award, which will be presented at the annual Bobcat Awards ceremony at 4 p.m., on Tuesday, April 20.
Anyone on campus can submit nominations for the Emerging Student Leader of each semester. For more information, contact Dr. Bruce Harshbarger, vice president of student affairs and dean of students, at (478) 445-5169.
