Magazine to leave imprints on students’ lives

“The Peacock’s Feet,” Georgia College & State University’s student literary magazine, will strut its way onto campus next week.
“The Peacock’s Feet” is a collection of literary works, photography and art pieces submitted by GC&SU students, alumni, staff and faculty. The 2003-2004 issue will arrive Thursday, April 22. A reception will be held to celebrate the new issue, which will be available for pick up free of charge.
The reception is open to anyone who is interested in attending. Contributing writers will read their prose or poetry, and contributing artists will display their work. Refreshments will also be served.
The reception will be held in the University Banquet Room at 7:30 p.m.
The reception will honor those who contributed to the magazine. Awards will be given in poetry and prose, for those who exemplified innovation in their work with “The Peacock’s Feet.”
Johnathan Lay, “The Peacock’s Feet” assistant editor, said this literary magazine, which is run by students, assembled and edited by students and filled with the art and literary work of students, is a great asset to the GC&SU campus.
“‘The Peacock’s Feet’ provides a way for us to express whatever is on our minds,” Lay said. “It is a way to make a small mark on the world, to leave something behind that will forever be a part of this school. Besides, with so many people writing to please a professor, sometimes it’s just nice to please yourself.”
“The Peacock’s Feet” has been a part of GC&SU for many years. The magazine gets its name from Flannery O’Connor.
“Flannery O’Connor loved peacocks,” Lay said. “The magazine is sort of an homage to her.”
Students who are interested in being a part of future issues of “The Peacock’s Feet” are encouraged to submit their literary and art work to the organization or apply to serve on “The Peacock’s Feet” staff.
All students are encouraged to pick up a copy of the upcoming issue of “The Peacock’s Feet.”
“I think any reader will find something to relate to in this issue,” Lay said. “There is poetry, fiction, non-fiction, a play, and then there is the art, which is wonderful. The art staff did a good job of selecting pieces for this issue. Everybody will find something to enjoy,” said Lay.
Students can pick up copies of the literary magazine around campus or at “The Peacock’s Feet” office in Ennis room 12.
If you have any questions, please contact the staff advisers Martin Lammon and Karen McElmurray at peacocklit@gcsu.edu.
“The Peacock’s Feet” is produced by the GC&SU Literary Guild.
