Bobcats golf ranked 10th in the nation

According to the latest Golfstat NCAA Division II Poll released this week, the Georgia College & State University golf team is ranked No. 10 in the nation.
It’s been a remarkable turnaround for GC&SU. After struggling for consistency during the fall season, the Bobcats had an outstanding spring season, which saw them finish in the top five in each of the five tournaments played.
GC&SU’s Carter Collins has been one of the contributing factors as the junior from Claxton, GA, has taken home medalist honors twice.
The Bobcats opened the spring by finishing fourth out of 16 teams at the Hombre Invitational in Panama City, Fla. The Bobcats followed that up with back-to-back second place finishes in 15 team fields at the Matlock Invitational in Lakeland, Fla., as well as the West Florida Invitational in Pensacola. GC&SU finished fifth out of 15 teams in its own Bobcat Invitational in late March, led by Carter Collins, first place finish. The Bobcats wrapped up the regular season by finishing second out of 18 teams at the Southeastern Collegiate in Valdosta, as Collins once again took home medalist honors for the second straight tournament.
Collins leads all NCAA II schools, which use the Golfstat scoring system in percentage of fairways hit (.871). Teammate Jose Martinez Medrano ranks fifth in fairways hit and seventh in hitting greens in regulation. Collins leads the Bobcats with a 74.30 stroke average, while Medrano is right behind him at 74.31.
The Bobcats play at the Peach Belt Conference Tournament hosted by Clayton State in Morrow, Ga., on Monday and Tuesday. GC&SU hopes for another good showing and a return to the NCAA Tournament for the seventh consecutive season.
