This is GC&SU … signing on
After a two-week delay, the Georgia College & State University marquee finally returned to working order last Monday.
The marquee was temporarily out of service due to a power outage on campus two weeks ago. The power failure was caused by a traffic accident on Wayne Street in which the driver collided with a power line pole.
When electricity was restored to the GC&SU campus, the marquee no longer worked. A component of the sign was then sent to the manufacturer, Daktronics, to be rebuilt.
After being repaired, the marquee was back to working condition Monday. According to Mitch Clarke, director of University Relations at GC&SU, the delay did not cause any major problems for anyone. “I think most people on campus are understanding of situations like this,” added Clarke.
Daktronics manufactures signs usually placed in athletic fields at schools, colleges and recreation departments. “We use the sign primarily as a method of letting students, faculty, staff and the community know about what’s happening at GC&SU. Occasionally, we use the sign to welcome dignitaries,” said Clarke.
Since its installation two years ago on the Clark Street side of Maxwell Student Union, the marquee has been updated daily by a University Relations employee.
“Getting an announcement about your event is easy,” said Clarke. Announcements may be requested in writing or by e-mail to Barbara Churchwell in University Relations in order to be posted. New messages are generally posted seven days before an event.
An event may be posted if it is GC&SU-sanctioned and is open to students, faculty and staff. GC&SU events located either on campus or off are accepted.
