MLB predictions

It’s time for my annual Major League Baseball picks.
This year there are so many good squads and mediocre squads. There’s not really an exceptionally bad team in the MLB this year. Henceforth, my choices have been based on instinct, a pure gut feeling, if you will.
The NL East is looking for a change. This will be the most competitive division in the NL, if not the entire majors. I know that I used this argument last year, but you can’t argue with 12 years of success. I like the Atlanta Braves, again. They’ll be closely followed by the New York Mets, Philadelphia Phillies, and Florida Marlins. There will be only one team in this division that will be under .500 for the season.
In the NL Central it would be downright foolish to put the Houston Astros anywhere but first place. So, that’s where I put them. The St. Louis Cardinals will be strong offensively, but injuries could plague them. If Cincinnati can be a contender by the end of July, then they can possibly deal for some better pitching.
I’m getting brave with my NL West pick. I’m taking the road less traveled and picking the king of underdogs: the San Diego Padres. The San Francisco Giants are slapping me in the face (of course not literally, because that’s a lawsuit) for recognition.
In the wild card race, the Chicago Cubs will beat out a team or multiple teams from the NL East and hold off the Giants to take the wildcard.
In the AL East, it is my personal belief that if Joe Torre does not win 100 games with the New York Yankees, he should be fired as coach and banned from baseball. The Baltimore Orioles and Boston Red Sox will give plenty of opposition and the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, for some reason, seem to be a thorn in the Yankees side, but they can’t seem to beat anyone else.
In the AL Central, look for a tight race between all of the teams; even the Detroit Tigers will be a competitor. Last year I predicted that the Kansas City Royals would be in contention for the AL Central last year and they were. This year I’m giving it to them. They are one of the scrappiest teams in that division, however I do like the Chicago White Sox squad this year, but they won’t have a good enough record to compete for the wild card.
The AL Wildcard will come from the West. The Anaheim Angels’ hitting will edge out the Seattle Mariners pitching for the fourth spot in the AL post-season. The Red Sox chemistry will get in their way. Especially with the off-season moves or attempted moves, the team will be very unbalanced and expect sub-par seasons from a lot of their athletes.
Here are my recaps and post-season predictions:
NL East: Atlanta Braves
NL Central: Houston Astros
NL West: San Diego Padres
NL Wildcard: Chicago Cubs

AL East: New York Yankees
AL Central: Kansas City Royals
AL West: Oakland A’s
AL Wildcard: Anaheim Angels

Playoffs:
National League:
Braves beat Astros
Cubs beat Padres
League Championship:
Cubs beat Braves

American League:
Yankees beat Angels
A’s beat Royals
League Championship:
Yankees beat A’s
World Series:
Yankees beat Cubs
