It’s your right to know
Itchy eyes, a runny nose and scratchy throat are all symptoms of allergy season. Lately, many of us are walking around with tissues in our pockets, getting ready for the next big sneeze. The first indicator that spring is in the air is the pollen coating everything in sight, making many people uncomfortable. It happens every spring; the flowers come out and so does the pollen. If you are having a hard time with your allergies this season, now is a better time than any to get help at the student health center.
No appointment is required to be seen by a doctor at the health center, only your student identification card. It’s easy to walk in, put your name down and wait a few minutes for someone to help you feel better. The doctors and nurses who work there do their best to consider all your symptoms in order to diagnose your illness. Even if allergies are the only thing ailing you, most patients will leave with some throat lozenges and more tissues if they are needed. They are also able to test for more serious illnesses if symptoms are more severe.
There is a fee to go to the student health center, but it is a small price to pay to get back on your feet again. Students do not have to pay on the day of their appointment. However, they do ask for you to pay at the registrar’s office when you are financially ready. Just make sure your bill is paid before you have to sign up for classes, because there will be a hold on your records until the bill is paid.
The health service does not only treat students who are sick, they also help students who are well. They offer complete annual women’s exams. Once again, there is a charge for the overall appointment, but all students are eligible for free contraception after their exam. Guys should also feel comfortable going to get checked out if they feel there is a need. It is all confidential, and no one should hesitate to go if there is a serious problem.
We have a great service here aimed at keeping the students safe and healthy. If you have never been to the health center, consider yourself lucky. If you do have to go, there is no need to worry. Everyone working there is very nice and willing to help you in any way they can. It’s not exactly the same as having your mom fluff your pillow and bring you chicken noodle soup when you’re sick, but it’s a close second to feeling better in a hurry.
