GC&SU’s Langham hits stride

Jamie Langham, a senior on the Bobcats’ baseball team, came to Georgia College & State University after attending Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC) in Tifton, Ga. for two years.
Growing up in Gray, Ga., Langham graduated from Jones County High School. At JCHS, Langham earned many baseball honors, including First-Team All-Middle Georgia and All-Region. He was also drafted by the Anaheim Angels, a Major League Baseball team, in California in 2000.
“My biggest accomplishment so far has been getting drafted out of high school,” Langham said.
At ABAC, Langham played two seasons of baseball for GC&SU alumnus Steve Janousek and was named to the State All-Tournament Team.
Thanks to his parents, Michael and Debbie, Langham has been playing baseball since he was four years old.
“My parents signed me up for baseball,” Langham said. “I’ve stuck with it ever since then.”
Langham chose GC&SU because of its baseball team.
“I came here on a visit,” Langham said. “I liked the coaches and the program.”
Langham’s favorite aspect about playing baseball is the competition and his teammates.
“The best thing about playing baseball for GC&SU is hanging out with the guys on the team everyday,” Langham said. “We have fun. Everyone clowns around and has a good time.”
When not on the baseball field, Langham enjoys doing “typical guy stuff.”
“I like to hunt, fish and play golf,” Langham said. “And I love to play Playstation.”
Langham primarily plays right field. In 2003, he started in 35 of the 38 games he played in. He finished with a .270 batting average with 21 hits, 15 RBIs and 30 runs. Currently, Langham has the third best batting average on the team, with a .333, while leading the team with eight home runs.
Langham’s most memorable baseball memories entail hitting home runs, his biggest thrill in baseball.
“Recently, I hit a home run to lead off two back-to-back games,” Langham said.
Langham, a general business major, plans on graduating in 2005. He said he will miss playing baseball for GC&SU.
“I’ve done it for so long; that’s all I know how to do,” Langham said. “I leave class and go straight to practice.”
Langham hopes to play baseball in his future.
“I hope to sign with a professional team,” Langham said. “If that doesn’t work out, I’ll just go from there.”
