Kappa Sigma celebrates 30 years at GC&SU
275 alumni, brothers, pledges and their guests gathered on Saturday, March 6 in Macon, Ga. to celebrate Kappa Sigma’s 30 years at Georgia College & State University, consisting of a day filled with activities.
The Lambda-Xi Chapter was founded by 23 Brothers on March 29, 1974 at Georgia College. Four founding members, John Cagle, Doug Davis, Stan Dominy and Rick Long, attended the ceremonies to represent the founders and John Cagle gave remarks during the banquet. Lambda-Xi welcomed the Worthy Grand Master, Kevin Kaplan, who was the top volunteer in Kappa Sigma, and Brother Kaplan was the keynote speaker. The Chapter also welcomed back 23 of the 33 chapter presidents from Lambda-Xi Chapter, including current Worthy Grand Master of Ceremonies, Phillip Bell. Nick “Spanky” Stephens gave his remarks as current Grand Master and committed the Lambda-Xi Chapter as a Master Renaissance Chapter, while pledging $7500 for the new memorial headquarters for Kappa Sigma. The Chapter welcomed Renaissance Campaign Chairman William O Waters, ADGM Robbie Rentfrow, DGM Chris Prince and Brother Chris Fricks. The Chapter recognized the Masters of the Ritual with a plaque for the chapter house and introduced John Stockstill and Chad Folsom as the newest Masters of the Ritual. The Alumni Association presented scholarships for leadership, scholarship and ritual to brothers Spanky Stephens, Pat Cleary, Steven Prance, Johny Ricks, Derrick Howard, John Stockstill, Richard Whirley, Chad Folsom , Ryan Bell and Walt Langford. Spanky Stephens was presented with a Scholarship/Leadership Plaque and a $500 check from Kappa Sigma. Awards were passed out to Steven Prance: Best Rusher, Johny Ricks: Best Athlete: Walt Langford: Top Scholar: Richard Whirley, Outstanding Ritual: Craig Henry: Alumni of the year and Spanky Stephens: Brother of the Year.
The Celebrations began with 20 alumni playing golf early in the morning and extended all afternoon and into the next morning with a great deal of fellowship during the banquet, dance and afterwards.
