International dinner scheduled for April 3
Tickets are now available for one of Georgia College & State University’s most popular events of the year, an event that combines a global cuisine with entertainment and fashions from around the world: the 19th Annual International Dinner, to be held at 7 p.m., April 3, at the university’s Centennial Center.
The dinner, prepared by GC&SU international students, features a sampling of foods from their home countries. Becoming a Milledgeville tradition, the dinner has grown in popularity since it was first introduced almost 20 years ago. It brings together more than 400 faculty, staff, alumni, students and community members for a virtual feast of global proportions.
Guests can enjoy more than 30 delectable delights from all over the world, as well as a colorful fashion show and entertainment, all presented by GC&SU’s international students. Masters of ceremony for the evening will be Rima Chaudhuri of India and Sadiq Oyapero of Nigeria. Dinner guests can look forward to enjoying a variety of exciting performances, from a Chinese sword dance and a traditionally classic Indian dance, to a French song and a vibrant African dance.
The menu this year will feature foods from such countries as Ethiopia, Kenya, Korea, Spain, Bangladesh, Switzerland, China, Slovakia, Cameroon, Ghana, France, Nepal, Pakistan and more, with dishes ranging from a chicken stew in a creamy peanut butter and tomato sauce from Ghana and Shopska Salad from Bulgaria, to Prouengale Lasagne from France and Okonomiyaki from Japan.
“Tickets have sold out each year before the dinner, so it is important to get them in advance,” said Libby Davis, international student advisor. Tickets are $8 for students and $15 for faculty/staff/general admission. They are now on sale at the International Education Center, 223 Lanier Hall, (478) 445-4789.
