Miller fits in with Lady ‘Cats
Georgia College & State University declared Coach Ginger Miller as the new assistant coach for the Lady Bobcats’ softball team.
Replacing Coach Kelly Zeilstra, who left to pursue a chance to play on Team Canada for the upcoming Olympic Games, Miller has been working with Coach Windy Thees this season.
Miller was born in Charlotte, NC and grew up in Wingate, NC.
“I started out playing baseball with the boys until I was 11 or 12, and then I started playing with the girls,” Miller said.
She attended Francis Marion University in Florence, SC, where she was a four-year starter in the outfield for the Patriots.
“I played college ball in the Peach Belt Conference and I’ve always wanted to come back and coach in the PBAC,” Miller said.
Miller earned All-Region honors as a senior and set a single season record with 21 doubles. She graduated from FMU in 2001 with a Bachelor’s degree in political science.
She spent two years as an assistant coach at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian College in Laurinburg, NC before coming to GC&SU.
After finishing as the NCAA Division II National Runner-Up last year while posting a 42-9 overall record, the GC&SU softball team is coming off of the greatest season in school history.
“The GC&SU softball team is a very tight-knit group of girls who are all striving toward the same goal,” Miller said. “They’ve been to the World Series and they all know what it’s going to take to get back there.”
Miller is ecstatic about coaching the Lady Bobcats this season, and she believes the Lady Bobcats demonstrate the ability to work as a team and not just individuals.
“The Lady Bobcats are very supportive of each other, and they work well together,” Miller said. “That’s the key to any good team.”
Miller hopes to gain a lot of knowledge from working with the Lady Bobcats and Thees this season.
“GC&SU has a great softball program and Windy Thees is a great coach,” Miller said. “I’m hoping to help the Lady Bobcats be a successful team.”
